World’s First Humanoid Robot Games Kick Off in Beijing

Beijing has officially launched the world’s first Humanoid Robot Games, a three-day technology festival where robots from 16 countries compete in sports such as football, boxing, and running.
The opening ceremony of “RoboCup 2025” featured robots performing dances, playing music, and demonstrating martial arts. Some reenacted football and boxing matches, while others impressed the audience with somersaults and cheering.
The event brings together over 500 robots from 280 teams representing 16 countries, including the United States, Germany, and Japan. Alongside sports competitions, fashion shows were also part of the program. While some robots managed to score goals, move independently, and recover after falling, others lost their balance and had to be carried off the stage.
Participants include top Chinese universities such as Tsinghua and Peking University, as well as three middle school teams. Speaking to the People’s Daily, a Beijing official stated, “Every robot’s participation is making history.”
Tickets for the event range from 180 yuan (about $25) to 580 yuan (about $80).
